The Association for Veterinary Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine (AVEPM) is a professional organization for all persons involved in advancing veterinary epidemiology and preventive medicine.

Its membership includes teachers, researchers, practitioners, administrators, and students in the United States, Canada, and other countries. It draws from schools of veterinary medicine and pubic health as well as other health professional schools and from non-academic health agencies and veterinary service organizations.

AVEPM is an organized voice for those in the United States and Canada committed to developing and fostering the academic base for veterinary epidemiology and preventive medicine. The AVEPM is active in sponsoring educational programs and developing learning resources which can be shared among the members.

What the AVEPM Does

  • Disseminates veterinary epidemiology and preventive medicine knowledge and experience
  • Promotes post-doctoral training programs for individual increased competence and/or specialty certification
  • Arranges and sponsors continuing education programs for those engaged in the practice of veterinary epidemiology and preventive medicine
  • Co-sponsors or participates in special workshops, conferences, seminars and symposia in cooperation with government agencies
  • Identifies and provides expertise to those persons or groups that request assistance in developing educational programs in the veterinary epidemiology and preventive medicine area
  • Supports graduate training in veterinary epidemiology and preventive medicine by sponsoring a variety of graduate student awards
  • Sponsors the annual Schwabe Symposium
